I am going to Armenia!!

Well, as you can see from the title of the Blog, I am going to Armenia.  I recently travelled there with my friend, MK.  We had an absolutely incredible experience and were thoroughly touched by the spirit of the people.  So when I got an opportunity to go do some volunteer work there, I couldn't turn it down.  I have taken a leave of absence from work, and I will spend 78 days there from November to February.  Yes, I am going in the winter!  I am actually really looking forward to seeing how things work (or don't work) in the off season.  I am also excited about spending the holidays there.  Though I must admit, being far from my family will be incredibly difficult, I am excited about experiencing something different.

I have already booked my ticket and gotten an apartment.  For those of you who know, I will be on Apovyan between Sayat Nova and Moscovian in the building that's behind the Central Cafe.  For those of you who don't know, I am right behind the Ani Hotel, in the middle of the city of Yerevan, close to restaurants, shopping, metro, supermarket, and the only 2 ATMs in Yerevan that take my card!

I am looking forward to experiencing life in Armenia.  I hope to immerse myself in the local culture and live as they do, feel what they feel, see what they see, and of course, being Armenian, eat what they eat!   I will also make sure to have vodka to keep me warm and healthy!  Apparently, vodka cures everything.

My goal with this Blog is to share my experiences with my family and friends.  As those who are close to me know, I am technologically challenged (though this Blog thing has been pretty easy so far).  I will do my best to post regular updates and post some photos as I go.   Will I be successful?  Only time will tell...

Love,
R
